Starting your LLC can be a complex process, but using a registered agent service ensures you stay compliant with all state requirements, since having one is required by State Law. A registered agent handles important legal documents on your behalf, such as tax forms or lawsuits, keeping your personal address private and your business running smoothly. This service gives you peace of mind, allowing you to focus on growing your business while knowing that nothing important slips through the cracks. Whether you just need a Registered Agent to list on your Articles of Organization, or you need somebody to file on your behalf to ease your workload, Register Me NC has a plan for you!

Steps for Starting an LLC

The following steps will ensure your LLC gets off to a successful start. Click the button below to learn more about how Register Me NC can help you with these items.

  1. Choose a Name for Your LLC: The name must be unique and meet North Carolina’s naming guidelines. You can check name availability on the NC Secretary of State’s website.

  2. Appoint a Registered Agent: Every LLC in North Carolina is required to have a registered agent to receive legal documents on behalf of the business.

  3. File Articles of Organization: Submit Form L-01, Articles of Organization, to the North Carolina Secretary of State either online or by mail. The filing fee is $125.

  4. Create an Operating Agreement: Though not required by law, it’s recommended to draft an operating agreement outlining the LLC’s management and structure. An operating agreement is usually asked for when applying for a business bank account or loan.

  5. Obtain an EIN: Apply for an Employer Identification Number (EIN) from the IRS. This is necessary if you plan to hire employees or open a business bank account.

  6. Register for State Taxes: Depending on your business activities, you may need to register an account for remitting North Carolina state taxes, such as sales tax or employment tax.

  7. File for Necessary Licenses and Permits: Check for any local or state business licenses your LLC might need to operate legally.

  8. File Annual Reports: North Carolina requires LLCs to file an annual report by April 15th each year to remain in good standing. The filing fee is $200.

“Register Me NC helped me out so much in the beginning when I launched my event rental business in 2023. They filed my articles for me which alleviated my to-do list when there were so many other startup tasks to focus on.”
